Ifj. Márkvárt János

This modern label design was created for Bortársaság’s open tender. Although it has never been realized, it was great fun working on it.

János Márkvárt Jr. is a Hungarian vintner from the historic wine-growing region of Szekszárd. He began his career by the side of his grandfather in 1996, therefore knows all canyon, grape and meadow of the region. These days he produces his own wine by his own hand.

About the working process

For this tender, a set of 3 labels had to be designed for different wines with the redesign of the logo. Kadarka is a vibrant, refreshing, crisp wine with lots of cherries, rosehips and herbs. Kékfrankos is a fruity wine, with strong barrel notes and vast dynamism. Rosé Cuvée is a fresh wine with redcurrant, cherry and a mild sweetness.

An abstract illustration takes up the bigger half of the layout, which reflects the taste and mood of each wine. Besides that, a simple typographical system tells the information about the product, and the newly designed logo completes the composition.

The balanced proportion of the illustration to the typographic elements in the layout makes this modern label design gracefully harmonic yet energetic. The clear white frame creates a silent space between the illustration and the bottle’s colour. Moreover, the design of the logo shows a personal signature reflecting the singular touch of the vintner.
